Eventually, I found my way to the drawing room where Abigail was painting a picture, just as I expected. Her beautiful, onyx hair was pinned up out of her face so she could focus on her work. It was an abstract painting, with darkness and sorrow, but at the centre of the canvas was a pair of clear, distinct eyes.

“Something is going on with you, Azalea,” she said softly without looking away from her artwork. “What is it?”

It caught me off guard. I could feel my palms begin to perspire even though her prying eyes weren’t on me. Did she know?
